A work filled with fantastic imagery, the Quintet takes its cue directly from "Faust".

A riveting and passionate lead to nighttime ("Nocturne"), followed by the frenzied excitement of Sabbath Night ("Nuit de Sabbat"), and closing with the martial power of the March: the various shades of this Quintet are reflected by magnificent instrument combinations featuring three French horns, playing in harmony and in contrast with the soloist violin, all of which is accompanied by the piano.
